- Severe Weather
Severe Weather refers to the scenario where a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory, or an “extreme conditions” announcement is made by the HKSAR Government.
- The Operation of Hong Kong Securities Market
Starting from 23 September 2024, under Severe Weather, Hong Kong's securities and derivatives markets will remain open and provide trading, clearing and settlement services. That trading day is called Severe Weather Trading Day (SWT Day).
To ensure safety, remote working and the use of online services are strongly encouraged on a Severe Weather Trading Day, and no public-facing physical outlets should provide services. HKEX will also make some operational adjustments to ensure the market continues operating in a robust and resilient manner, as certain services provided only via physical outlets will be unavailable.
In short, the trading of all exchange traded products will remain normal as usual, including but not limited to equities, ETFs, derivative warrants, callable bull/bear contracts, REITs and China Connect (Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Connect) etc. However, the Physical outlets of HKSCC and share registrars are closed under Severe Weather conditions. Deposit and withdrawal of physical securities by CCASS Participants are not available.
